Various boat trips allow visitors to experience close encounters with marine life such as seals, whales, dolphins, and even rough-toothed sharks. Although mainly an urban area, the Nelson Mandela Metropole is known for its prolific birdlife.<\/p>\n
A familiar Port Elizabeth landmark is the Boardwalk Casino and Entertainment World which offers entertainment for the whole family including entertainment, shopping, dining and games. Other entertainment options in the Nelson Mandela metro include many modern shopping malls, cinemas, and several restaurants. Port Elizabeth has a vibrant nightlife as well as annual and seasonal festivals and events.<\/p>\n
Splash Festival is a popular annual event that takes place in this area. This fun-filled event takes place over the Easter weekend and combines a family festival with water sports. Live music performances, beach sports, water sports, kids programs, fireworks, food and a craft market make this an exciting place to spend this vacation time.<\/p>\n
There are great accommodation facilities that make it a good base for exploring the surrounding areas, especially the game viewing opportunities which are within hours’ drive of the metro.<\/p>\n
The Nelson Mandela Metro is also known for its motor vehicle manufacturing industry and the port is one of South Africa’s major ore loading facilities.<\/p>\n
